It’s great to bring you news of more restaurant openings, product launches and business developments in the South West this week. When the history of this pandemic is written, we think the hospitality industry will come out of it very well. Despite being one of the sectors most impacted by Covid-19, hospitality has done everything it can to help local communities. We’ve had distillers making hand sanitiser, restaurants giving out food parcels and hotels housing the homeless. So it’s no surprise to see the overwhelming response from our industry to footballer Marcus Rashford’s plea for the government to provide free school meals for the poorest children during the holidays. Although the situation remains tough, we can be proud of how we’ve acted during this crisis....READ MORE
While the government’s confusing and shifting response to the pandemic continues, hospitality is getting on with business as best it can. The new openings, launches, awards and initiatives we cover in this issue prove that our trade attracts people who want, above all, to move forward as positively as possible. Times may be tough but you have to admire this industry’s spirit. We’ll do our best to support you by sharing your company’s news with over 15,000 fellow professionals in the South West....READ MORE
After the helping hand of Eat Out to Help Out, just when we thought we could be over the worst, the latest government announcements came as a fresh blow. They hit all the harder as restrictions look likely to be in place for the next six months. Worse still, as Hale Events’ MD Mike Anderson says in his guest article for us this issue, it’s not backed by the evidence and won’t stop the rise in Covid cases. Here at Rise & Shine we’ll do all we can to help your business and get news of your initiatives and innovations out there to over 15,000 fellow professionals in the South West hospitality business through this digital newsletter and our new website....READ MORE
The coronavirus continues to disrupt hospitality more than perhaps any other sector with the government’s new “rule of six” restrictions likely to hit customer confidence again. But you can see from the success of Eat Out to Help Out and in many businesses’ successful pivots to takeaway, there’s always going to be a deep desire to get out there and enjoy great food and drink. Let us know your company’s new initiatives and we will do our best to support you with some good old fashioned publicity on the shiny new Rise & Shine website and right here in our digital newsletter....READ MORE
Like a reopening restaurant, we’ve had our very own refurbishment this issue. We hope you like our fresh look and enjoy the shiny new Rise & Shine website which is just a click away when you want to read the full stories featured here every issue. It’s very much business as usual when it comes to bringing you the latest news from the South West hospitality trade, but with this new format, you’ll be able to get a digest of what’s going on much more quickly and then access the information you need on the website, along with loads of other useful content....READ MORE
There’s a lot of launch activity to announce this issue and we find nothing lifts our spirits like a freshly turned-over “Open” sign. Which is good because the road to recovery was always going to be a long and winding one rather a quick route back to where we used to be, as the latest steady but mixed sales figures for pubs and restaurants show. Any business opening or reopening post-lockdown should be congratulated. We’ll do all we can to support your venture in Rise & Shine....READ MORE
We’d like to start this week’s Rise & Shine with a goodbye and then a hello. First, farewell to our News Editor Carolyn Moss who is leaving us after no fewer than 203 editions. Her passion for and knowledge of the hospitality industry has driven every single issue since we launched. Stepping into her shoes will be Nina Mitchell. A former chef in South Africa, she also knows this trade inside out and will be a great person to contact if you want to share your news with our audience of over 15,000 fellow professionals in the South West....READ MORE
This issue sees the triumphant return of a type of news story we haven’t seen much this year – the opening of some new restaurants, cafés and pubs in the South West! From a beachside shack in Cornwall to authentic African cuisine in Bournemouth to St Austell Brewery’s first Dorset pub with a few rounds of Cornish adventure golf in between, it really feels like things are opening up again....READ MORE

While it’s certainly not back to normal, the reopening of some pubs, bars and restaurants on Saturday 4th July was the first step on what’s likely to be a long road to recovery from the coronavirus outbreak. We hope you can see the path ahead for your business a little more clearly now…...
